Client: The Trustees of Borough Market
Contract Value: £1.5 million

The Borough Market Food School will be housed in a five storey building at 1 Cathedral Street in the heart of Borough Market in Southwark. It will be for local and London use and will promote a sustainable mix of community and corporate users.

The lower three floors will provide dedicated, free or low cost space for voluntary and community groups, schools and colleges, food producers, chefs, market traders and market users. This space will also be available for vocational training in the hospitality sector. The top two floors will be corporate function space and office accommodation to generate income to make the Food School self- financing. These services are unique as there is no other Food School in London which combines the community and commercial functions proposed.

DLA have been involved in extensive research and consultation as part of their development of this project and have worked with local schools, colleges, restaurants, catering companies and sustainability consultants to ensure the proposals address holistically the issues surrounding food, health and education, as well as the careful re-use of an historic building in a prominent urban location.
