Client: Leicester University
Location: Leicester
Construction Value: £35 million

From an international field, DLA were shortlisted following a first stage submission for a new Faculty of Art and Design at De Montfort University, Leicester.
Our team were invited to present design concepts for a scheme to form a prominent gateway to the University on the currently under-developed western edge of their campus.

The submission was made in association with Bryan Avery, of Avery Associates - architect of numerous well known cultural and arts projects. An alumni and external examiner at the School of Architecture at De Montfort, Bryan was looking to work with a team who shared a commitment for creative design with an ability to provide the level of technical and client service required to procure a building such as this.

The team developed a comprehensive design proposal, which considered masterplanning, site and landscaping issues, programmatic and pedagogical ideas, structural, environmental and financial elements. Central to our approach was the necessity to combine all of these into an exemplar education facility in an holistic manner, demonstrating to the students, the city of Leicester and wider audiences the high aspirations of the University.
