This shortlisted project comprises a new children's centre to replace an existing building. The spaces comprised a ' heart' space providing a management hub, a dedicated space for SEN including a sensory room, multi-use spaces for counselling, multi-use spaces for nursery activities, a health hub for ante natal care and baby health checks and a community area for activities such as a young mums club.

Our key design objective was to create a building that was approachable for all members of society, encouraging people with low levels of self esteem to use the building. Once inside, the building brings daylight from high level and low level creating a bright, dynamic interior which is also flexible and environmentally achieves BREEAM Excellent.

As the new building is in the middle of a district shopping centre, the landscaping was key. The design creates a combination of spaces that are both private for outdoor playspace for children as well as welcoming and an enhancement to the existing pedestrianised spaces.
