On the 6th February 2009 DLA was invited to take part in a one day design charette organized by the RIBA and sponsored by the Building Magazine, the Design Council and the Home Office bringing design-led architects together with school leaders and education specialists.
Participating practices were assigned primary and secondary schools to work with to develop real briefs and innovative design solutions addressing a range of current challenges in education.
DLA worked with St Faiths School, Wandsworth, a VA Church of England School, to develop a brief, understand the Client's aims and aspirations, and propose a series of interventions and transformations which would enable the staff to use the built environment to further their dynamic teaching methods.
The competition judges included Sebastian Conran, Mairi Johnson (Partnerships for Schools), Steve Tubby (Atkins), Jack Pringle (ex-president of the RIBA) and Dan Stewart (Editor of the Building Magazine).
We are delighted to announce that DLA were declared Overall Winners - For best briefing, ideas and presentation and Category Winners - The Intelligent Space Award: for best development of new education spaces, demonstrating our ability to lead the way in the design of creative learning spaces.
