The design brief for the new Learning Resource Centre for Derby University envisaged a student centred approach giving students a high degree of personal autonomy focusing on active learning both individually and in groups. This objective is concerned with enhancing the quality of the students experience and is consistent with achieving a high level of efficiency in the use of academic staff time.

The Learning Resource Centre is recognised as a project of the highest strategic significance in the long term development of the University. The building services design is fully integrated into the architecture, providing natural, sustainable techniques for daylighting and ventilation.
