This development explores the idea of a residential product for a senior living market with a mixture of apartment type properties ranging in size throughout the development. In addition to the proposed new build element of the scheme, Loxford House is positively integrated into the development with the existing overall footprint to the main building retained including the ancillary wings. These ancillary wings may be heavily refurbished and restyled as necessary as part of internal planning, however they do give the opportunity for the introduction of an internal courtyard with a fully glazed roof as an amenity to the house. The development does consider the planning development brief with regard to the constraints of the site with positive inclusion of the protected trees and recognition given to the site topography. The site is developed with the clear intention of offering a degree of positive integration into the existing community, through the introduction of additional services within Loxford House.
The overall style of the development in architectural terms is anticipated to acknowledge the existing residential character, materials pallet and vernacular detailing, however with a contemporary blend of material selection recognising the existing pallet within the general location and positively contributing to the overall character of the area as a whole. Overall building form and mass is to be controlled within a tight urban grain and a fully maintained shared public realm of high quality soft and hard landscape material developed in a manner so as to compliment the overall development and provide a series of internal pedestrian linkages through the site. The proposed scheme consists of approximately 250 residential units - a range of 1- and 2-bedroom apartments and studio units - with parking provision for staff, residents and visitors, in addition to landscape works throughout the site.
