DLA were appointed through invited competition to submit initial proposals to develop the Sheffield Airport site. (a former remediated site).
The Airport terminal building and runway had initially been developed to offer internal flights and some limited local European connections to continental hubs at Brussels and Amsterdam, along with providing a base for the South Yorkshire Police helicopter.

It was anticipated that the site, which offered good connectivity to Junction 33 of the M1 motorway and Sheffield City centre, would attract a wide range of business operators and the brief required that a variety of business class uses could be accommodated through flexible design to appeal to an emerging market.

A number of zones with distinct characters were planned offering a range of starter and incubator units to serviced and HQ type office buildings.
The park was subsequently extended further from the Airport hub to offer more industrial and warehousing uses, complemented by a car supermarket and budget hotel.

Latterly the business park has been developed further, as the airport need diminished as other regional airports were planned and developed. This scheme, a joint venture between Sheffield Business Park and Peel Holdings, offers a mixed use development expanding and complementing existing facilities.
