Forms Part of Yorkshire Forward's 'Five Towns Initiative', also including Castleford, Normanton, Featherstone and Knottingley.

Regeneration strategy for the Georgian/Mediaeval town centre.

Overall objectives to stimulate tourism and make the town an attractive place to live, benefiting from excellent transport links.

Integrates with proposals for the adjacent Prince Of Wales Colliery site and 'Pontefract Ellipse'.

The strategy proposes a series of catalyst interventions along 'The Great Street' (Castleford to Pontefract Castle) to repair historic fabric, improve connectivity and stimulate investment.
