Location: Burnley
Following the successful completion of Burnley College, DLA Landscape & Urban Design were invited to tender for the commission to develop proposals for a disused space opposite the main College entrance. The 'island' site needed to function on a number of levels, not only playing a key role in improving the 'gateway' to the town but also to as a social space for students attending the College.
The sites physical constraints, in particularly the topographical relationship to Princess Way and Canning Street, offered challenges in terms of inclusive access but also the scope to be creative in terms of providing a range of opportunities for social interaction.
