DLA were appointed by the College, through a competitive process, to assist GVA Grimley in the development and critical appraisal of options for the redevelopment of their City Centre Campus.
A city centre college redevelopment has a huge opportunity to regenerate and uplift the surrounding urban fabric and wider community and consequently we view these studies as not just an exercise in 'Education delivery but one of Urban Design and integration. Accordingly, our service was structured around a combined team drawn from our specialist Education and Strategic Planning Units.
This way of working has ensured that the Feasibility Studies are founded on a balance of an appreciation of the educational needs of the College and an understanding of the wider context of development in the city. Designing from both the 'inside out' and from the 'outside in'.
The study scope encompassed a number of sites, each of which were reviewed against opportunities for College use and also opportunities for maximising values through disposal. A comprehensive 'suite' of study documents, detailing opportunities and constraints across a range of educational, design and planning issues will consequently allow the College and its Strategic Consultant team to agree on a preferred and deliverable Strategy to progress.
