In April 2009 Wakefield Wildcats announced plans to build a new 12,000 capacity Community Stadium at M62 Junction 30 in Wakefield.
 
The new stadium will be built on the site of the former Newmarket Colliery by Developers Yorkcourt Properties Ltd and will include facilities for Wakefield College and Leeds University establishing a Sports Science Department at the venue. The project will also provide grassed and synthetic training pitches for Rugby, Football and Hockey.

Sir Rodney Walker, former chair of Sport England and The Rugby Football League has been appointed to head the new Community Trust Stadium Group, which has been established to help deliver the scheme and take on ownership of the stadium and its operation on completion.
