DLA were appointed to deliver a new 420 student place primary school as part of the Hull and East Riding 2 Priority School Building Programme (PSBP) batch for St Francis Askew Primary School.
The current building was originally built as a middle school but was being used as a primary school which was underutilised with 280 pupils. With this in mind, DLA were provided with a brief to design and deliver a new 2 form entry school for children aged 4-11 including a nursery facility.
As part of the design development, the DLA Design Team created a way finding strategy for the pupils to help them move around the building with ease. The concept has been based around the solar system, with the planets and stars and a colour theme representing a different year group. DLA have been praised by the Education Funding Agency who were impressed with the strategy that will not only help the children navigate around the building, but also teaches them something at the same time.
