Over the past 25 years, DLA Design have shaped a world class sporting facility, designed to meet future standards whilst maintaining the unique ‘Headingley atmosphere’ at a stadium that has hosted International sports for over 110 years. The masterplan for the phased redevelopment obtained planning approval in 1999, establishing a framework for the redevelopment of the stadium over a 20-year period and in May 2019 the final elements came to fruition.
The redevelopment of the Headingley Cricket Ground has reinforced its importance as an international sporting venue, providing modern spectator facilities, improved sight lines, a new members Pavilion, disabled facilities, a multi sports area including international standard cricket nets for the club, and a variety of external pitches for community use, as well as changing facilities, physio and fitness suites, and classrooms for ‘cricket in the classroom’, used by Community Groups., a members long room and 36 executive suites.
The scheme included improvements to the Indoor Cricket Academy that boasts the most up-to-date facilities in the country, including, specialist surfaces, independent cricket lanes with interchangeable nets, substantial run-up areas, tension netting, lighting to international standards, bowling machines, video analysis, a spectator viewing gallery and a variety of pitches for community use.
