Nash House is a comprehensive office refurbishment situated in the heart of Mayfair in Central London. It occupies a corner position on St George Street and Maddox Street and is opposite the Grade 1 listed St George’s Church. It creates a new benchmark for workspace in the West End.
DLA successfully negotiated planning for the transformation of an existing 1980’s brick building creating a ‘re-imagined’ façade designed to be contemporary, timeless, and be respectful to its historical context. The design approach was to reduce the dominance of the existing dark red brick and create a lighter elevation through the introduction of stone detailing so that it now sits in harmony with its older neighbours which allows the church to be the focus of the junction once more.
Design improvements include a reconstructed new top floor and slate roof with large contemporary dormers, all other existing windows enlarged, rationalisation of the projecting bays, and further enhancements in particular a dramatic new entrance space that appears double height.
The building has also been radically redesigned internally to create an exquisite, boutique office space with faultless detailing, clean lines and outstanding natural light. The office floors and common parts are all entirely new and through careful planning and detailing the design has overcome a number of the buildings original operational compromises. The result is a cohesive new workspace environment.
Interventions include: reconfiguration of entrance space with a new reception desk and sleek contemporary interior; large bespoke automatic front door; tri-marble floors and details; seamless hidden lobbies; raised access floor; full height windows; feature ceilings; disabled WC’s; and the redirecting a shared escape from within tenant space to the roof;
