In collaboration with Galliford Try, Wingfield Primary school was completed in June 2016 and see’s the delivery of a 3FE community Primary School in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The transformational design, using Offsite construction techniques developed by Galliford Try and DLA see’s the education of pupils from 4 to 11 sit alongside a 56-place nursery. A series of hierarchical spaces encourages the progression of age groups through the school from the ground floor housing the nursery, through to the top floor housing the older key stage 2 students.
The site lies within a wider masterplan of residential development and the scheme is intended to address a projected shortfall in pupil places in the local area. The site is constrained and therefore a three-storey option was approved matching the scale of the proposed residential development. The scheme benefitted from funding from the Local authority, enabling us to create a high quality façade. The use of brickwork and cedar boarding creates an attractive and natural looking building that relates harmoniously to the wider landscape context which will weather softly over time.
