Job Role: Associate Architectural Technologist
Iain is an associate within the Leeds studio. He joined DLA Architecture in 2004 having worked for several small practice's in varying sectors, and has a wealth of experience in Retail, Stadia and Office schemes.
With a BSc (Hons) degree in Architectural Technology, Iain specialises in technical delivery, implementing his skills on a range of projects at DLA including Central Square – Leeds, Vangarde – York, and Headingley Stadium to name a few.
Iain works closely alongside the client and the design team in his role as contract administrator, to strike a balance between the practical and aspirational and is responsible for the production of drawing packages from inception through to project completion - including site / client liaison and co-ordination of specialist subcontractor packages.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (MCIAT), sits on both the Technical & Environmental forums and the “Focus On:” editorial team.
My Favourite Project: Iain takes great pride in every building that he works on. Vangarde Retail Park at York was a highly enjoyable project, due to the huge collaborative effort of the design team to produce a scheme which broke the stereotypical mould associated with an out of town retail park. He also enjoyed the challenge of Central Square, Leeds where DLA created what has been referred to by many as “the best building in Leeds”.
As Iain spends the majority of his working life indoors, he likes to spend the majority of his personal life outside with his family - and enjoys hiking, cycling and snowboarding. He is a huge fan of music and films, and quite proud of his varied tastes in each.
Favourite Design / Building:
Iain admires buildings that utilise simple solutions to create something that is visually stunning, and the answer to this question changes regularly. The clean lines of Villa Mortanas in Stockholm and the simple yet striking aesthetic that was used to create the façade of the Charles Street car park in Sheffield are a couple that stand out to him.
