Job Role: Architect
About: Sophie completed her Master of Architecture at the Manchester School of Architecture in July 2017 and joined the DLA Architecture team in Manchester as a Part II Architectural Assistant. Sophie’s final year project was based in Berlin where she proposed a new neighbourhood that explored a variety of housing typologies which provide a balance of intimate and communal public spaces. Her experiences at Part I included working for Chapman Taylor in Shanghai where she explored design processes in a vastly different social and economic climate. Also, she worked near Leeds for a design and construction company, gaining extensive site experience.
Outside of the office, Sophie enjoys immersing herself in many outdoor activities such as kayaking, walking and skiing. She also has a passion for travel and exploration through photography.
Favourite Design / Building:
On a recent trip to Copenhagen I visited the Bagsværd Church, designed by Jørn Utzon. Whilst the understated simplicity of its exterior looks closer to an agricultural building than a church, inside, one is immersed into a sanctuary. The spectacular undulating roof illuminates the main congregation space with natural light.
